Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by trucks entering the scrap yard: a) 7250 Paschall Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19142 - Employees and private contractors coming to the site were exposed to the hazard of being struck by trucks delivering scrap metal. The employer did not provide a ground guide to direct trucks backing up while dumping scrap metal and driving onto the scale. Observed 10/30/96. ABATEMENT NOTE - ONE FEASIBLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO HAVE A DESIGNATED EMPLOYEE GUIDE TRUCKS WHILE THEY ARE BACKING UP TO DUMP OR ONTO THE SCALE TO BE WEIGHED.
