Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) at the Wastewater #1 unit. The employee was exposed to Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4) while gauging a tank truck on or about September 13, 1998. An accident occurred where an employee was exposed to H2SO4 due to improper isolation procedure. Among other methods of abatement: 1. Install engineering controls, a level indicator gauge, on temporary storage tanks, to eliminate the necessity for a stock specialist to manually gauge the tank. 2. Isolate the tank truck to make it safe for stock specialist to gauge the tank.
