Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by trusses that had not been adequately braced: a) Village Greens, residential construction site, Evesham Twp., N.J. - Employees setting trusses were exposed to the hazard of being struck by the trusses. The trusses were braced to the inside only. On or about 08/28/98. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the trusses are adequately braced following the recommendations of the Truss Plate Institute, Summary Sheet H1B-91 entitled "Commentary and Recommendations for handling, installing and bracing metal plate, connected wood trusses." ABATEMENT NOTE: In Accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19, Abatement Verification, the employer will furnish certification that the described hazard has been abated. Documentation may include but is not limited to photographs, videos, work orders, invoices, training records and consultant reports. Abatement documentation must be received by the Area Director within 13 calendar days of the final abatement date for this violation.
