Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to rotating parts: a) White Ranch, Saguache County, Co.: On or about January 7, 1998 employees were exposed rotating parts while working around a post hole auger that was attached to a John Deere tractor, one employee was fatality injured after coming in contact with the PTO drive shaft. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to equip the tractor and post hole digger with an adequate PTO and drive shaft guard which would prevent any type of contact with the rotating parts. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is not required for this item.
