Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by or crushed by an overturning powered industrial truck. a.) On or about January 31, 2003, at the constrution site located at 4420 Jackson Blvd., Fort Jackson, SC 29207, along the sidewalk in the barricks' common area the operator of a small Clark Equipment - Electric Clarklift; Model EC500-45F; S/N E355-0669-5397FA1084; Type ES Powered Industrial Truck (forklift) failed to use the installed seat belt. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abating this hazard is to require and enforce the use of driver restraint devices on all motorized equipment.
