Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being thrown out of the operator's seat and/or being crushed by industrial lift trucks: a)Warehouse - Area of Bay Doors #8, 9, 10: Employees using a Hyster S40XL industrial lift truck and a Clark GCX60 industrial lift truck to transport freight materials from trailer were not wearing seat belts, on or about 2/27/97. b)Warehouse area: An employee using an industrial lift truck was not wearing seat belt, on or about 2/28/97. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1)Require and enforce the use of seat belts on all equipment having seat belts installed as required in the lift trucks manufacturers' owner manual for the wearing seat belts.g
