Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from elevated surfaces: a)Plant, Cooler Room: Employee(s) raised while standing on the forks of a "Crown" forklift for "samples" and order picking from the upper level of the Finished Products Storage Rack were not protected from the hazard of falling to the lower concrete floor, on or about 8/5/96. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others to correct this hazard, is to provide a "safety platform" properly secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks as per ANSI B56.1 - 1975, Part III - Section 513, or equivalent protection.
