Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of having their feet run over and crushed by the chassis while manually propelling emergency vehicle chassis on the production line: a.On or about March 21, 1997, only one pneumatic dolly was available for employees to use in six (6) locations on the chassis assembly line to move each partially assembled chassis. There was no assigned location for the dolly and no back up dolly available for use in case it was taken out of service for repair, exposing employees to the hazard of having their feet run over and crushed by the chassis. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to make a second pneumatic dolly available in the area for employees to use to move the vehicles down the assembly line.bly
