Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: On or about 06/19/98. a) East of Harrop tunnel kiln. The working platform attached to the forks of the Yale #4 fork lift was not secured. Employee(s) engaged in the repair of a 220/240 electric bus bar approximately seven (7) feet above ground was exposed to the hazard of falling to the ground below. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: 1)Secure the platform to the fork lift forks as required in An American National Standard, Powered and Nonpowered Industrial Trucks, "Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks," ASME B56.1-1993, Section 4.17.3(b). 2)Train the employees in the proper use of fork lifts when lifting employees as required in An American National Standard, Powered and Nonpowered Industrial Trucks, "Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks," ASME B56.1-1993, Section 4.19. ABATEMENT NOTE: THIS VIOLATION REQUIRES ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION.
