Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Heath Act of 1970 The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to : The hazard of falling, a)Repair area inside of the building. An employee was welding while standing on a plank that was placed on the top guard rail of the scissor lift; on or about 4/8/98. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard is to: 1)Train the operator to comply with the ANSI standard A92.6-1990 section 8.10.1 which states, personnel shall maintain a firm footing on the platform while working thereon unless they are secured by a safety harness/lanyard fixed to manufacture approved hard points. Use of railings or planks, ladders or any other device on the work platform not conforming to 8.10.1 for achieving additional height shall be prohibited.
