Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: Employees were exposed to a defective heater. The automatic control valve on the RLP30 Propane Construction Heater was wired in the on or "down" position. This valve is used as part of the starter/ignition system. The valve overrides the thermal couple allowing gas to flow at startup. By wiring it on, it allows the gas to continue to flow if the flame extinguishes. One feasible method of abatement would have been to returned the heater to the distributer or manufacturer for repair or replacement. NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
