Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment or a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to being burned from leaks and spills of hot, caustic liquid from failed process equipment: One means of abating this condition is to develop a proactive preventive maintenance program, repair equipment before it fails in service, and to compile a history of equipment service life.
