Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the condition(s) listed below: Wylie L.P. Gas, Inc., Petersburg, Texas. On or about March 22, 1999, employer had not trained employees on the hazards of a vehicle being driven into the automotive shop for service. Employees were required to drive the vehicles into the shop to repair flat tires and change oil. This condition exposed employees to struck by and caught in between hazards. Feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard. a) Ensure all employees are out of the way when driving a vehicle into the automotive shop for repair. b) Ensure employees get instructions pertaining to the vehicular problems from the customers. c) Hazard assessment of vehicles to determine if the vehicle has to be pushed into the shop instead of being driven in.
