Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazard of being struck by the heavy stainless steel rolling buckets, called V-Mag Wagons, used in the lifting of meat to hoppers in the Pork Sausage and Chopper Rooms of Plant #2, which could fall from the hydraulic lifting mechanism due to lack of support caused by the bent condition of rails on the sides of the wagons. AMONG OTHER METHODS, TWO FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE: a) Repair all bent rails on any of the stainless steel V-Mag wagons used at the facility, b) Develop a program for regular inspection and reporting of defects to facilitate safe conditions in the future.
