Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CUTS
Section 5(a)(1 ) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that softening materials used to protect the suspended wire rope cables were not adequate to prevent the wire rope from being cut, abraded, or otherwise damaged and such materials were missing in some locations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to provide properly engineered materials to protect wire rope cables from being cut through by sharp edged bridge sole plates with consideration given to the loading of the cables.
