Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about 02/06/98 employees working on safety platforms lifted by forklifts were exposed to possible injury from the safety platforms not being secured to the lifting carriage or the forks. Exposing employees of falls of up to 20 feet . This is an industry recognized hazard as referenced by A.N.S.I Standard B56-1993-4.17.3. Among the other methods,one feasible and accepted means of abatement is to use a chain or cable to secure the safety cage to the lifting carriage to prevent slipping.
