Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The Comau Marriage lifts were subject to screw lift failure. Failure of one screw lift created a hazard of tilting the lift where drive train components and/or the lifting plate could fall and strike employees. The Comau Marriage lifts were used to raise the engine drive train components from the floor to the overhead cars, at the plant in Department 25. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to repair and/or replace faulty lift components, and connect pairs of screw lift together to ensure level operations.
