Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads from using inadequately protected nylon slings: (a)Old Trail Road, Etters, Pennsylvania - The two (2) inch nylon sling(s) used to lift metal roof decking from the ground to the National truck were not adequately padded. The sharp unprotected edges of the roof decking material severed one of the sling(s), causing the load to fall and strike an employee. VERIFICATION REQUIRED One feasible abatement method, among others is to utilize adequate padding that will provide suitable protection from the sharp edged decking material, or use an alternative type of lifting device other than nylon sling(s).
