Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees of employers authorized to use the elevator were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a moving elevator: At Building 14a, River Dam Millyard - An opening in the elevator hoistway door at the bottom landing allowed the placement of body parts through the door into the hoistway. Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to re-install wire re-enforced glass into the opening. (Reference State of Maine Elevator Code paragraph 06.01(N1h).
