Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manlifts in the main elevator, the south unit and the north unit due to the lack of a car enclosure. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a car enclosure on each of the manlifts. (b) Employees were exposed to a potential crushing hazard while working near the manually operated manlift in the south unit due to the lack of guardrails around the base of the manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install guardrails around the base of the manlift.
