Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were exposed to potential fall hazards and crushing hazards while operating a manual manlift due to a lack of fall protection. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install guardrails on the manlift car. (b) Employees were exposed to crushing hazards while working near the main elevator manlift due to the lack of a guardrail system with a gate around the base. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a guardrail system with a gate around the base of the manlift.
