Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. On or about March 4, 1997, employee(s) were exposed to the hazards of being struck by, crushed, thrown from, or pinned by equipment such as the Wrangler front end loader and overhead hazards. The Wrangler loader was being operated without the factory installed ROPS protective device. Further, employees were not required to wear nor were they using the factory installed safety belts. Both items are required by the manufacturer's warning published in the operators and parts manual for the Wrangler loader. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to reinstall the ROPS on the Wrangle front end loader and require operators to use safety belts provided by the manufacturer.s
