Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of falls and other injuries due to the failure of welded components. (a)Atlanta Arena construction site: Welders not certified in accordance with AWS D1.1 were allowed to weld the steel members of the precast bleacher sections Violation occurred on or about 10/2/98 ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIRED One feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be for the employer to follow the guidelines outlined in AWS welding standards.
