Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of entaglement in conveyor parts: a)Production area, south wall - The two chains and five nylon belts on the infeed conveyor of the Muller Martini Fox 321 Stitching Machine (s/n 99-30186) were not guarded adequately to prevent injury to employees. On or about 1/11/99. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19 Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1.Guard conveyor parts in accordance with ASME B20.1-1990, and 2.Train employees on the hazards associated with working around the conveyors, the necessary precautions to take to prevent injury, and the proper application of safety devices.
