Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being punctured: a)Recycling building, south side, C100 and C101 conveyor belt - Employees with the job title of picker who work around the C100/C101 belts were not provided with an emergency stop device to stop the conveyor equipment in the event of an emergency. On or about 03/03/98. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19 Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1.Install emergency stop devices along conveyor belts in accordance with ANSI/ASME B20.1-1984, and 2.Train employees on the hazards associated with working around the conveyor belts and trommel, the necessary precautions to take to prevent injury, and the proper use of safety devices.
