Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a. On or about December 10, 1997, at the jobsite located at 4220 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago, IL, employees working from two Central scissor lifts were standing on both the midrail and toprail of the lift while constructing the roof of the building. Employees were thereby exposed to fall of up to approximately 25 feet to the ground. A feasible and useful means of abatement includes, but is not limited to the following action: 1. Reposition the lift so employees can complete their work activities while standing firm on the platform floor of the lift. 2. Have employees work from self propelled aerial platforms which can be moved in to positions that would make it possible to safely reach the working area.
