Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a falling hazard: a) Warehouse area: Employee(s) were not provided with an appropriate safety platform to access upper storage shelving in that: Employee(s) were standing on a pallet which was resting on the forks of a forklift truck raised to a height of approximately 25 ft. exposing them to a fall to the concrete floor below. Violation occurred on 2/23/98 "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to utilize only platforms designed for use in elevating personnel with forklifts. These platforms must meet the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993 and train all employees about the hazards of falls associated with improper elevating methods, and the proper application and use of safety platforms" ABATEMENT NOTE: This violation requires documentation and certification of abatement.
