Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) On or before August 25, 1989, employees of Walker Towing Corporation removed and/or re-installed carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinders on a fixed fire extinguishing system aboard the M/V Bill McCormick for the purpose of providing maintenance on the tug's heat exchangers and had not been provided training for working on such systems by either a licensed contractor or equivalent and/or were not under their supervision. One feasible abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide training by Kidde or equivalent training to employees and their supervisors.
