Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefore, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. Genuine Parts Company dba NAPA Carrolton Distribution Center, Lincoln Avenue Carrolton, Ohio worksite - As of and prior to February 29, 2012, the employer had not maintained the safety interlock device for the trash compactor in working order to prevent operation while the hinged access is in use. The safety interlock device was damaged and in addition, was no longer aligned properly with it's operational fixture, or plate that contacts the "plunger." The trash compactor is used on a daily basis for cardboard box compaction prior to disposal.
