Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: being struck by descending automotive lifts. a) Automotive service area lifts #5, #7, #8 and #9 were not provided with operative automotive mechanical safety devices; additional lifts #7, & #8 when raised immediately descended to the floor due to leakage in the system. One feasible & acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is the installation of automatic mechanical safety devices.
