Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by descending automotive lifts: a) Automotive service lifts #19, #21, #22, #14, #13, #27, & #28, had air/oil leaks, #1 had a broken air control handler retainer spring & #29 had safety log missing from guide post. One feasible & acceptable abatement method to correct the hazards is to establish a routine maintenance & inspection program. Reference ANSI B153.1-1974 paragraphs 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, & NIOSH pamphlet (both enclose).
