Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Being struck by moving narrow gauge rail cars; strings of cars were being pushed into buildings, around blind corners, and through vehicular crossings at the Primary Mill area without warning being given to employees in the area, on or about May 1, 1985. One feasible and useful means of correcting the hazard would be to have the brakeman preceed the cars, per company rules, to warn exposed employees.
