Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a. The hazard of being struck and/or crushed by a vehicle with an obstructed rear view, in that, the employer did not protect employees from the recognized hazard of not requiring another employee to signal before backing a one (1) ton specialized service truck where the rear view was obstructed, on or about August 18, 1991. Among other methods, one feasible and accecptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a reverse signal alarm audible above the surrounding noise level or an observer signaling it is safe to operate the vehicle in reverse.
