Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about December 15, 1989, employees were exposed to the hazard of being stuck by falling trusses at a building located at 3101 Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach, Florida 33601 in that adequate and continous lateral bracing and proper diagonal bracing was not used to prevent toppling and dominoing during erection. Bracing through chords laterally and cross bracing was not provided to ensure that trusses were secure in a straight and plumb position. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to ensure that the Truss Plate Institute, BWT-76, Bracing Wood Trusses Commentary and Reccomendations are carried out according to procedures as the job progresses.
