Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a wire rope nad a dump truck: RED TURTLE FARM DRIVEWAY-GRASSY HILL ROAD, ROXBURY, CONNECTICUT: ON OR ABOUT 3/25/85, EMPLOYEES WERE EXPOSED TO THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK BY A WIRE ROPE AND SNATCH BLOCK RATED AT 7 TONS WHILE PULLING DUMP TRUCK #436, WITH A GROSS WEIGHT IN EXCESS OF 30 TONS AND WERE STANDING IN A RECOGNIZED HAZARDOUS AREA WHILE SIGNALING THE DRIVERS OF THE TRUCKS #436 AND #549. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REMOVE EMPLOYEES FROM THE DANGER AREA AND USE ONLY EQUIPMENT WITH A RATED LOAD LIMIT APPROPRIATE FOR THE INTENDED USE.
