Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being injured by a flying projectile: JOBSITE: A RUBBER "MUNI BALL" USED FOR PLUGGING AN UNDERGROUND WATER LINE WAS BEING INFLATED BY AN INGERSOL RAND AIR COMPRESSOR WHEN IT RUPTURED. Feasible abatement method: Use a hand operated air pump to inflate the muni ball or use compressed air through a proper pressure regulatory device limited to 35 psi.
