29 CFR 1926.501(b)(11): "Steep roofs." Each employee on a steep roof with unprotected sides and edges 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels shall be protected from falling by guardrail systems with toeboards, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. The employer does not protect each employee from fall hazards while performing roofing activities on a commercial building with unprotected edges at a height of approximately 18.3 feet above a lower level by the use of guard rail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. This most recently occurred on May 7, 2025, at 5800 Everhard Rd., Canton, Ohio 44718. Employees are exposed to the hazard of falling approximately 18.3 feet to the ground, while involved in roofing activities along the unprotected edges of a residential home without using fall protection or a fall protection system.
