Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physcial harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about April 26, 1994, the employer did not asssure that fall protection was in use for employees who were working at the edge of building eight loading trusses from a forklift onto the rafters to prepare for placement thereby exposing employees to a fall hazard of eighteen feet to the ground. Among the feasible means of abatement are: 1. Use a crane to hoist the trusses up to the rafter area where employees could install from the inside on a ladder or scaffold. 2. A carpenters bracket scaffold could be installed on the interior of the wall to bring the trusses onto the rafter section by a forklift with extendable forks to lessen the fall potential.
