Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about August 23, 1994, the general contractor did not ensure employees from S.A.W. Construction were provided fall protection for the employee to install roof trusses thereby exposing the employee to a fall hazard in excess of 17 feet. Among the feasible means of abatement that can be used to correct this condition are: 1. A ladder should be used to work from the second floor area to set trusses to the rafter area so employees would not be exposed to a seventeen foot fall hazard. 2. A carpenters bracket scaffold could be installed on the interior of the inside wall to bring the trusses up to the second floor for installation.
