Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) West Elementary School, Boise, Idaho - On or about February 12, 1992 and at times prior thereto, an employee working on the wet, slippery, corrugated metal decking was exposed to a 15 foot fall hazard. The employee, not using personal fall protection, was permanently welding metal decking to the joists adjacent to an unprotected edge 15 feet above the concrete floor. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to cor- rect this hazard are safety harnesses and lanyards, catch platforms, scaffolding, guardrail system, warning lines and/or develop and in- stitute work practices to eliminate the need to work at the unprotected edge and install an even, anti-slip work surface.
