Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to live electrical parts: (a)F/T American Dynasty in the Galley an orange extension cord was being used to power a rice cooker. The cord was also routed through a window opening. (b)F/T American Dynasty in the Galley a black extension cord was used to power a refrigerator, adequate strain relief was not provided at the cord connector to prevent pull from being directly transmitted to connector points and/or terminal screws. NOTE: The American Seafoods Company was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard 5(a)(1) which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 301494910, Citation Item 1 and Item 2, issued on 10/15/98 with respect to a workplace located in Naknek, Alaska and Inspection Number 301496071, Citation Number 1, Item Number 2, issued on 03/09/00 with respect to a workplace located in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. ABATEMENT NOTE: Instance a. above was corrected at the time of the inspection by removing the orange extension cord and utilizing a power strip, therefore, abatement certification and documentation is not required for this item. For, instance b. in addition to submitting the enclosed Abatement Certification form to OSHA, abatement documentation in the form of photographic evidence must be provided. Failure to provide such documentation may result in additional citations and penalties.
