Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Employees were exposed to the hazards of a possible fire or explosion on or about October 4, 1988 where tank trucks containing flammable vapors were being cleaned inside the building and no ventilation was provided. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1) Provide explosion proof mechanical ventilation in the building to remove flammable vapors. 2) Purge tank trucks outdoors and station them where flammable vapors will not blow or drift indoors.
