Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a train derailment hazard: (a)Train - The Jackson Zoological Park's train was allowed to operate with the following system defects: 1 - Defective air compressor on locomotive. 2 - Excessively worn coupling(s) between locomotive and first rail car 3 - Railroad ties in need of repair/replacement. 4 - Defective and improperly adjusted brakes 5 - Missing engine cover. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to initiate the following recommendations: Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule, as per manufacturer's suggestion.
