Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck or crushed by hydraulic, single-pole automotive lifts, number's 1,2,3,5 and 6, that did not have the automatic lock devices in safe operating condition that would hold the lift in the fully extended position at rated load capacity: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to clean and lubricate the automatic lock safety devices on the lifts and conduct periodic inspections of the lifts to insure that all components are in safe operating condition.
