Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in the employees were exposed to: a) Hazards of being struck-by movement of trains operating on number (7) track in the Cold Strip Dept. at the Yorkville, OH. plant in that adequate means of protection were not provided to warn employees of approaching trains at the transfer car crossing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is utilizing a crossing attendant properly stationed to provide warning signals to persons or operators of mobile equipment approaching the crossing until the leading end of the movement has passed over the crossing.
