Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees exposed to hazard of fire/explosion - in storage building a clear space of at least 2 feet was not maintained between organic peroxide storage and uninsulated metal walls. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to maintain at least a 2 foot clear space between MEKP containers and uninsulated metal walls. b) Hazard of fire or explosion because a minimum 8 foot clear space was not maintained between organic peroxide storage and any other storage. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to maintain at least an 8 foot clear space between MEKP storage and any other storage (NFPA 43B, 1986 3-4,1).
