Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a. Working on the roof with a pitch of 5 in 12 and eaves 14 feet above ground level without being provided with a means of fall protection. Some feasible and acceptable abatement methods, among others, used by this industry are: 1. A catch platform installed below the work area. 2. Use of safety belts and lanyards.
