29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2):Means of egress from trench excavations. A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress shall be located in trench excavations that are 4 feet (1.22 m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62 m) of lateral travel for employees. a) Located at 6809 Hamilton Road, Westerville, Ohio, 43081: On or about December 19, 2024, the employer failed to ensure employees had the proper means of egress for the employees working in a trench approximately 8 feet 2 inches deep while installing a storm drain line. Employees had to climb from the side walls and/or spreader bars of the trench box to egress the trench.
