Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees constructing the roll tong lifting device in the stop area are exposed to crushing hazards associated with sudden assembly collapse during the erection sequence. A feasible and useful method to correct this hazard, among other available methods is the design and implementation of a safe work plan and erecting procedure which incorporates the use of support tables, jigs, bracing, cribbting, blocking and restraining devices which will prevent collapse during the assembly phase when employees are in the hazardous crush zone.
