Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were potentially exposed to serious injury and physical stress due to the inability to quickly exit the cab of the crane to a safe location in an emergency. In the event of fire or other emergency within the building the crane operator would be required to exit the crane through the normal crane access route thereby exposing the person to serious injury due to the building emergency. A feasible means of abatement is to provide a controlled decent device within the cab of each crane for the purpose of escape from the cab in an emergency. This hazard existed at the following locations. (A) LOEWY PUMP ROOM: OVERHEAD CAB CRANE #1056. (B) FORGE SHOP: OVERHEAD CAB CRANE #889. (C) FORGE SHOP: OVERHEAD CRANE #890. (D) SHIPPING AND RECEIVING, BAY 7: OVERHEAD CAB CRANE 2828
